Adult Chronic Kidney Failure Symptoms

In the beginning, chronic kidney failure may be asymptomatic (not producing any symptoms). As kidney function decreasing, people will feel much uncomfortable symptoms . These symptoms are from the inability to regulate water and electrolyte balances, clear waste products from the body, and promote red blood cell production.

The adult chronic kidney failure symptoms include:

1. Metabolic acidosis: because of the inability of kidney function to manufacture bicarbonate, patients will occur to metabolic acidosis which can lead to organ failure.

2. High urea nitrogen: Rising urea levels in the blood can affect the function of a variety of organs ranging from the brain (encephalopathy) with alteration of thinking, to inflammation of the heart lining (pericarditis), to decreased muscle function because of low calcium levels (hypocalcemia).

3. Generalized weakness: it may be due to anemia. Because lower levels of erythropoietin do not adequately stimulate the bone marrow.

4. Other symptoms: As waste products build in the blood, loss of appetite, lethargy, and fatigue become apparent. This will progress to the point where mental function will decrease and coma may occur.
